Or were you talking about something like Crossfire or Called Shot? Either way, it doesn't matter if it's blocked, Choking Gas still interrupts. So what the heck are you running?
Choking Gas doesn't interrupt anything on the iway team because they dont use spells. they have skills like shields up and whirling defense that stop you from interrupting manually, so thats when you stop using choking gas and use seeking arrows for manual d-shot/savage interrupting mode.

edit: just saw the post above, CG rangers should be using shortbows unless on manual interrupt mode for the faster rate of fire.

a Bow Ranger is rather rare in the current HA metagame but I'm sure a Magabane Ranger can be fit instead of the 2nd mesmer or something.
other than that though, Ranger Spike or Spear Chuker/Thumper. it's sad that HA is so unflexible unlike TA/GvG, but if you choose to play HA you gotta know what you're getting yourself into.

as for your question, HA or GvG.
as a Bow Ranger definatly GvG. you have the almighty Crip Shot, BA, Magebane, BHA, Glass Arrows/Melandru's Arrows, Escape with Point Blank Shot and Zojun's Shot. there's also the rare Ranger ganker.
Crip Shot is the most common but the other types also see use. it just depends on your build.

for TA Magebane Ranger is the king. BHA and BA come in rather close 2nd and third. Thumpers and Spear Chukers also work nicely.

I don't think you should limit yourself (this goes to anyone) to one profession. Also depends on what you find fun, I always found interrupting fun... Feeling of reward I guess.

Choking gas to me is not really a good way to start. Doesn't take that much skill to interrupt someone.

Agreed there, putting your effort into training your skill such as noticing enemies casting skills at the right times since you are only prepping up+c-spacing pretty much...that's how i seen it...but it's still quite powerful
And diversity between all professions is much better for reputation on your friends list, imo.

Sure it's semi powerful if the opposing teams are idiots; regardless, new players in MY opinion should not necessarily aim for power. They should aim to have fun (obviously) and to improve.

I think that most males are competitive and the majority of the game is male so with that in mind learning to be good is fully justified; in addition, choking gas not only teaches you little about the game but for a person with average intelligence or more it soon gets boring.

I would disagree elektra,

it doesnt take much skill to get a lot out of a CG ranger bar. (single target shutdown)
But when you get good, you really make the entire enemy team want to kill you. (you are letting your normal attacks hit a midline caster with long cast times, while you look for good dshots)

As for also running seeking arrows on the bar, sometimes a team does not bring ANY casters at all, and instead lots of physicals, and then a couple things you want interupted. And more often than not these things you want interupted show 'block block block block block' to your ranger. That is why I use a second prep for these matches. It is also for koth matches when I want my ranger to search out songs so the mesmer can interupt the ghostly.

The build is definatly fun to play, but you need a good mes and a decent ranger to play it well.

i think the major limitation to running rangers in balanced builds in HA is having access to players who will be able to run the type of ranger you want to run.

In HA the effectiveness of the offensive and defensive options carried by rangers like crip shot/magebane/choking gas rangers is entirely dependent on their proper and timely usage.

A ranger in HA as well as GvG (and to a lesser extent in TA and AB and RA) needs incredible awareness of the flow of battle... what characters are causing trouble and who needs to be shutdown, when they need to do this and for how long. However just look at the HA meta in particular and you can see that the majority of players there are not practicing running builds that encourage the development of such dynamic awareness.

But then of course you could go ahead and join everyone else and turn your ranger into a RaO thumper or a oath shot spirit spammer or ranger spiker... its entirely up to your personal attitude towards PvP and what you seek to get out of your time playing it.

You don't want to play rangers with pets EVER
You don't want to play oath shot spirt spammers EVER

I do not care what any nub might say about thumpers being strong they are was and still LAME meaning:

You get no satisfaction from your skill level while playing it, go play shock axe and when you get a bulls strike shock then disruption chop off while the monk cries you will feel 100x better and if you don't then sorry but you ARE a HA scrub.

You want to be a ranger and use a bow. Unfortunately if you pug HA you wont find many uses of rangers outside the lame builds that I just mentioned. But ranger can be viable in a balanced build running either magebane or cripshot more so magebane in HA.

As a Magebane your roll will be varied depending on map type and the team build your in but for example on relic runs interrupt the snarer thats is making your runner cry, if your a cripshot on this map you will probley be snaring their runner or interrupting their snares.

In 1v1 as a magebane interrupt key defensive skills such as aegis, wards, defensive anthem and anti melee necro or enemy caster mesmer and eles if your team is taking to much pressure. As a crip you will be crippling targets your melee calls for and also enemy melee targets training your monks while interrupting key defensive or offensive skills depending on your teams current condition.

You might also have a spike skill like sloth hunters shot that you will spike on time with your caller, also don't forget during alter holding you WILL try and interrupt the enemy ghost from capping.

The Seeking Arrows ranger had one purpose and one purpose only, to make sure the enemy ghostlies wouldn't be able to cap in HoH. CG was only on the bar so that the ranger wouldn't be useless up until that point.

And just to clear up misconceptions, CG hits before the arrow does, meaning your d-shot is useless as a skill-disabling attack. It will still more arrows in the air, but even if you d-shot a rof, while under cg, they'll be able to cast it again in 2 secs.

And finally, R O C K Y, I do hope you're being sarcastic in your post.

rangers can deal large ammount of damae in a small ammount of time if you wnt the whole rspike build i cba atm but i shall if you want it, anyhow under the right conditions, forked arrow, glass arrows and 16 marksmenship is pretty nasty enven if itdsd just part of a normal spike
